In light of what has gone down over whether having employers tell you when to take a week of your vacation is an industry standard of not (spoiler: it is not, but that doesn’t mean you cannot request non-standard arrangements), the online nanny networks that have shut down over this debate, and the rift that has taken place within the long term nanny industry over the claim thereof, we think it is time to once again remind ourselves that industry standards are standards, not “I’ve seen it happen from time to time”s.
